Science Fair
On January 21, 2010, Salem Elementary will hold its annual science fair.
Science Fairs present an opportunity for children to apply the science skills and concepts learned in class and to more thoroughly understand those concepts. It is an opportunity to work independently to increase problem solving skills and independent think-ing. When children are actively engaged with science at an early age, it helps to foster a life long love of science. This is an opportunity for students to tap into what they already know and expand on other skill sets. A science fair project involves not only problem solving and experimentation, but also communication skills, reading, writing, research and even art. When a child completes a science fair project, they will be proud of their accomplishments and confident in their problem solving abilities.
We encourage all students in all grades to participate in this event. All students that participate will be recognized with a certificate. Additional awards will be presented in the K-2nd and 3rd-5th categories. Three awards will be presented to the highest scoring projects overall. These three students will represent Salem Elementary at the Regional Science Fair on Saturday Feb. 20, 2010, at Wakefield Middle School in Raleigh. Three Honorable Mention Awards will also be selected to serve as alternative representatives in the event that any of our Grand Prize Award winners are unable to attend the Regional Science Fair.
