Kindergarten General Information
We are very excited about the new school year, and we look forward to working with you and your child! With your help, kindergarten will be an enjoyable and valuable experience for your little person.
Registration
Parents need to register upcoming kindergarteners at the office. They will need a proof of residencey such as a power bill, a copy of the child's birth certificate, and a copy of the child's immunizations.
Staggered Entry (first five days of school)
To allow teachers to spend more time with each child entering kindergarten, making it an easier transition, during the first five days of school each child will come to school one day only. For the students, it is a normal day; the students should bring lunch (if bringing from home), snack, and a towel for rest. Teachers will do some basic assessments that day.
Right before school begins, the students' families will receive a letter letting them know who their teacher will be and what day they should come. They will be given a chance to meet the teacher.
Transportation
Buses begin arriving at 8:45 A.M. The car pool may begin unloading at 8:45 A.M. All children should be in their rooms and ready to start the day at 9:15 A.M. Please make sure your child is here on time. Students are dismissed at 3:45 P.M. each day.
We must be notified in writing of any changes in your child’s transportation plans from school (bus rider or car rider).
Please see our school policies. The school policies take precedence over information on this page.
Clothing
Please allow your child to wear comfortable clothes to school. They may want to bring a sweater or light jacket to keep at school in case they get cool. Also, please send a gallon-size zip lock bag labeled with your child’s name containing a change of clothes (shirt, pants, underwear and socks) to be kept at school.
Personal Items
Put your child’s name on all personal items so there is no question as to who they belong to.
Please do not allow your child to bring valuables or toys to school unless requested for a special occasion. These can be a real distraction. In general, no excess items please, as storage space is limited.
There will be a quiet time each afternoon. Please send a towel for your child to rest on.
Birthdays
Please do not send party invitations to school. School policy prohibits them from being distributed. Each child will be recognized and may bring a special snack to share with his/her class during lunch.
Sending Money To School
Please send money in an envelope with your child’s name, amount of money and what the money is for. This helps us all.
Lunch and Breakfast
You may pay for your child’s lunch or breakfast by the month, week, or day. The cafeteria staff prefers the monthly or weekly payment. Make checks out to Salem Elementary Cafeteria. If you send money for lunch in with your child, please send it in an envelope with your child’s name, the amount of money, and what the money is for.
Friday Folders
Folders containing your child’s work and letters from the teachers will be sent home with your child every Friday afternoon.
Parent Conferences
Parent conferences will be held at the end of the first and third report card periods.
Contact Information
Any address or telephone number changes should be given to the child’s teacher as soon as possible so that you may be contacted in the event of an emergency.
Please see our school policies. The school policies take precedence over information on this page.
Absences
Please notify the school if your child will be absent. Upon returning to school, a written reason for the absence needs to be given to the teacher.
Please see our school policies. The school policies take precedence over information on this page.
Illness
Please do not send your child to school if he/she is showing signs of illness such as a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting. In case of an illness at school, you will be notified by phone to come and get your child.
Each child’s records need to be up to date. This includes a birth certificate, social security number, proof of immunizations and a Kindergarten Health Assessment for each child.
