2009-2010 Reflection Program
Theme: Beauty Is...
Salem Elementary is excited to participate in the National PTA Reflections Program, designed to enhance a quality arts education and provides opportunities for students to express themselves artistically and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Out of 500,000 projects that made it to the national level last year were 2,000 from Wake County. We are proud that our school produced 1st place county winners last year! Now more than ever students need more opportunities to create works of art for fun and recognition, and the Reflections Program provides an outlet for students to creatively explore what they are learning in the classroom.
This year, we will have more recognition at school and will have a public Art Show/Gallery Reception, Saturday, October 31st. Then, Salem will send 24 winners to the next level of competition. Every child will have the opportunity to create a literature entry through assignments given by classroom teachers. They can enter any other categories by turning in projects to the front office, October 12-16th.
What:
Reflections is a program that gives students an excellent opportunity to complete a voluntary, independent project. In its 40-year history, the program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to explore their artistic talents.
Why:
When children express themselves creatively, they grow intellectually; they learn to analyze their thoughts and feelings. The Reflections Program helps parents recognize, support, and enhance their children’s continuous process of self-discovery.
